Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua inspected spring farming and hog production in Northeast China’s Jilin province from May 8 to 10.
Hu said the local authority should go all out to stabilize grain production and resume hog production to ensure food safety and major non-staple food supplies and stable pricing.
Hu was at a field inspection on spring farming, hog production, and prevention against African swine fever in Zhengui county and Taobei district of Baicheng city and Ningjiang district of Songyuan city. He inquired into protective farming in the Northeast region and had an insightful interaction with stakeholders involved.
Grain safety, Hu said, being a significant pillar of national security, calls for stringent protection, as it paves the way for sound employment, people’s basic welfare, market entities, safety of grain and energies, stability of industry chain and supply chain, and grass-roots operations.
The Northeast region plays an important part in national agricultural production, which requires sound progress in spring farming and larger farmland area.
The local authority should help people conquer the impact of unfavorable weather in the early stages of spring farming, carry out timely farm work, and ensure seeding progress and quality.
Meteorological hazards and pests call for further prevention efforts, and related agricultural services should be ensured.
Hog production should resume in full swing, with normalized prevention measures stepped up to curb African swine fever.
With the production and marketing of hog products in place, beef and mutton, milk, and other products call for further efforts to ensure production as well.
Protective farming should progress in a pragmatic manner, and farmers’ activity should be brought out to make further innovation and improvements, he said.
