Vice-Premier Liu He attended home-court activities for National Science Popularization Day at the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing on Sept 21.

President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to science popularization and technological innovation, which are of equal significance as they both underpin innovation-led development, Liu noted.

More efforts should be made to enhance work in this field, publish more chapbooks popularizing scientists and scientific issues, boost the development of related industries, and eventually improve people's scientific literacy, Liu said.

Traditional Chinese medicine should come into full play, powerfully supported by talent cultivation, he added.

Against the backdrop of the regular epidemic prevention, Liu said, science should play a key role, with experience drawn from practical operations.

During the visit, Liu had a talk with scientific workers stationed at national impoverished towns. He praised their achievements in anti-poverty efforts and encouraged them to scale new heights in their research.

Science popularization is a good channel to cultivate science lovers and potential innovators in the young generation, Liu added.

Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and head of the China Association for Science and Technology, also attended the activities.
