State councilor attends meeting on national military recruitment

State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe addressed the first plenary meeting of the inter-ministerial joint conference system on national military recruitment in Beijing on Jan 18.

The meeting discussed the work rules of the conference system, reviewed the recruitment work in recent years, arranged tasks for the upcoming year, and promoted the reform of military recruitment and retirement.

The meeting stressed the reform to conduct military recruitment and dismissals twice a year, and underlined the important role of recruitment in building military battle readiness.

It called for ensuring and improving the quality of recruited personnel. A complete military service system must be built based on scientific methods, covering every phase, from joining the army, in-service period to retirement, according to the meeting.

It also stressed coordination and efficiency among military organization and leadership, strict epidemic control measures and principle of honesty to guarantee that annual recruitment tasks are finished to high standards.
