China's performance market leaps during May Day holiday
BEIJING — China's performance market ushered in a consumption peak during the five-day May Day holiday, with over 14,000 performances held nationwide, attracting over 6 million audience members, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on May 8.
The total box office revenue of the performance market reached 860 million yuan (about $133 million) during the holiday, recovering to 73 percent of the figure in the same period of 2019.
A total of 1,600 tourism performances were staged across the country, drawing over 2.4 million people and generating 360 million yuan at the box office.
Nearly 30 music festivals were held nationwide. In the meantime, the parent-child cultural consumption market has recovered, and traditional opera performances have effectively stimulated local cultural consumption, the ministry said.
